The book has two merits. As a record of the linguistic tournaments held to date by the Workshop for Knowledge, it is valuable for the history of linguistic competitions in Bulgaria and around the world. As a collection of tasks, it is of interest to all participants in school competitions and the Olympiads in Linguistics, their teachers and trainers, university lecturers in linguistics, as well as curious people inclined towards mental entertainment.
Linguistic assignments and tournaments are an original way to introduce students to language science. Bulgaria is the second country in the world after the former Soviet Union, where linguistic tournaments for high school students are being held. Since 2003, linguistics is a full-fledged Olympics discipline in the MES calendar, enjoys great popularity, and although annual competitions are not that small, demand outstrips supply.
This has led to the birth of the linguistics tournaments of the Workshop for Knowledge. Their initiator - Vesselin Zlatylov, a teacher and leader of long-lived linguistics circles, is one of the authors of this book. The other is the repeated medalist of linguistic Olympiads Zdravko Ivanov, who as a student in the upper classes starts to take part in the organization of the Workshop tournaments.
Every task in the book is accompanied by a detailed decision. It is worth noting that decisions are not a schematic representation of the phenomena set forth in the task, but also indicate the possible course of reasoning. This is especially useful for readers who can already appreciate the beauty of the answer to a linguistic task, but they need help to learn to find the way to themselves.
